Simulation Modeling In Cancer Control

Would you like to help coordinate work by a group of world-renowned cancer modelers as they use comparative simulation modeling to guide public health research and priorities? Cornerstone Systems Northwest recently expanded its work with the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Intervention and Surveillance Modeling Network (CISNET) and is looking for individuals with interest and experience in health-science modeling and decision support. The CISNET consortium, started in 2000, has been cited by the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) Task Force on Good Modeling Practices for its role establishing a forum that enables modelers to compare results and articulate reasons for discrepancies. The consortium has collaborated with diverse groups such as the United States Preventive Services Task Force, the Center For Disease Control, the American Cancer Society, the American College of Radiology Imaging Network, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to help answer timely policy-relevant questions.

Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborating with scientists using statistical modeling and simulation to better understand disease control interventions and preventions, screening, and treatment in populations
  2. Supporting publication workflow including review of manuscripts, co-authoring peer-reviewed papers
  3. Research and publication in the area of health-science decision support
  4. Research simulation modeling, and data analysis
  5. Programming in support of all of the above

Qualifications:

  1. MS or PhD in Mathematics, Biostatistics, Numerical Analysis, Computer Science, or related field.
  2. Excellent analytical, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  3. Fluent in one or more scientific computing languages and/or toolsets: Python, Matlab, R, SAS, SQL, etc. Demonstrated proficiency in multiple tools a plus.
  4. Willing and able to work independently on complex, multi-year projects
  5. Must be a strong self-starter, able to work well independently with honesty and integrity
  6. Must be eligible for US employment and US government background check/security clearance
